Tony Childress

Tony Childress is a pioneering leader in the fields of engineering, architecture, and consulting for both commercial and residential construction. He is the owner and founder of Childress Engineering Services, Inc., established in 1994, with offices in Richardson and Austin, Texas. He also serves as the Owner/President of Jax Kneppers, Inc. in San Francisco, California, and is the Managing Partner of SCWright, LLC in San Diego, California, and Group Structural, LLC in Dallas, Texas.

Tony’s extensive experience spans Structural, Architectural, and Forensic Engineering, as well as Construction Management and Consulting Services. Since beginning his career in 1987, he has worked with Owners, Architects, General Contractors, Builders, Manufacturers, Insurance Companies, and Attorneys. His expertise includes project engineering, design engineering, consulting, and construction administration for both commercial and residential projects.

Tony’s project experience encompasses a wide range of designs and structural analyses, including:

  • Main Frame and Secondary Structural Systems using Steel, Concrete, Masonry, and Wood
  • Aluminum and steel framing systems for exterior curtain walls and various cladding components for exterior wall systems and skylights
  • Stone and granite slabs/panels, including steel strong-back systems
  • Various roofing systems
  • Concrete and concrete embedment anchors, including post-tension and rebar slabs on grade and suspended structures
  • Retaining wall systems for commercial and residential construction

Additionally, Tony has served as a consultant for disaster response assessments and for building owners, architects, manufacturers, and contractors, providing design, analysis, and inspections for new and remedial construction. He specializes in problem prevention, identification, and resolution of air and water infiltration issues, as well as structural system failures.

His work also includes on-site testing and inspection of structural components and curtain wall systems for both new and existing structures. Tony frequently provides expert witness testimony on engineering and construction legal matters, further showcasing his broad expertise and commitment to the field.
